The History

Meliakai Surfboards was founded in 2008 by Rhett Larsen and was named after his daughter Melia Kai. The company was born from his love of sport, and a natural talent for art and craftsmanship. Every surfboard made was personally designed and custom shaped for the individual by “Rhettski” himself. Driven by a passion and knowledge of merchandising and design, the brand quickly grew. With the emerging popularity of stand up paddle boarding in Central Oregon, it was only a matter of time until MeliaKai Surfboards branched out into the world of SUPs. Each board was unique and custom designed by Rhett. The artistic beauty of a MeliaKai board stood out above the rest and made them highly sought after. As a one man operation, demand would ultimately outgrow production. If you are fortunate enough to be the proud owner of one of his boards, cherish it. It truly is a one of a kind.

Tragically, Rhett passed away in his prime in 2018. Leaving his legacy behind to his friends and family, we are proud that Meliakai Surfboards continues to live on. Rhett Larsen, however, was so much more to this world beyond his surfboard business. He was a beloved father, a proud firefighter, a friend, a son, a mentor, a brother, and was someone who made everyone that he knew feel special.
